The book An Encounter with Vesterålen is a tool for discovering the diversities and unity in history, culture and social life.  In the general introduction, Vesterålen's history and culture are provided in an overview, followed by a detailed presentation of 23 different areas where you can discover the traces of the past on your own. Finally, seven suggested travel routes are provided - with valuable background information on the sights you will meet along the way.
