The trading post
On the Jennestad property in 1830, a small business was operated; it developed and became the Jennestad Trading Centre. The first decades of the 1900's were the heyday for the centre: Trade was comprehensive and the farm here was important, in local terms. In addition, there was mining of graphite ore for export. This gave the place an international profile that few other local communities in Vesterålen had. Today, the natural surroundings, as well as the cultural and historical heritage of the trading centre, make this an attractive tourist site and a meeting place for both local citizens and visitors.
