Åse - The Viking chieftain's military installation |
14 buildings in a ring |
The installation was built some 1800 years ago to protect the people of Andøy against their enemies. Now only the tofts remain. Today there is a car parking/rest area nearby the tofts, and a large informational sign helps you to better imagine the life of the many soldiers who served their chieftain here. The Åse installation comprised 14 residential quarters in a circle with a country courtyard in the centre. The installation is 40-44 metres in diameter. |
